This week we moved onto developing our A2 drawing into models. We were given just a few minutes to create a model, coming up with 6 which drew from aspects of our A2 piece. It was difficult to create different models that related to the original work, especially under the time pressure. In the end I was able to envision a more complex version of some of the ones I had made. Throughout the week I developed this further into a fusion of the smaller models to produce one more detailed and precise.
I wanted to focus on movement, light and colour. I started with the idea of a building and what would it look like if you just pushed the top of it sideways and the shape you would create. This created a different perspective, I think similar to how we perceive dreams and that sort of alternate reality we enter in our sleep. I wanted to combine light and colour and play around with how they react. I did this by having alternating sized and shaped cutouts around the model and coloured “curtains” hanging within. When light hits the holes around the sides it refracts off the colour inside and sends light out in different directions and coating the inside of the object with colour and patterns.
