Designer Research: Petra Blaisse

Petra Blaisse (Born 1955, London) is a dutch designer who works primarily as an architect, interior designer, with textiles and landscapes.

She studied Art in London and Groningen and after leaving school began to work with photographers and illustrators before moving to work for a museum. While working as a freelance designer, Petra became interested in textiles, interiors and landscapes.

In 1991 Petra Blaisse founded the Amsterdam based studio Inside-Out. Inside-Out has completed numerous works of a wide variety around the world and collaborated with outside architects and designers.

Petra’s work caught my attention through similarities to the model I created previously. She uses curtains and a range of light to create different spaces and patterns. This is very similar to what I was trying to create and explore with my work through the coloured “curtains” and openings.
