Bath House Model

After viewing the site I knew that I wanted to dig down into the space to give myself more room. We were restricted in going upwards by the rest of the existing building above but the ground below is perfect to use.

Initially in my first model I wanted to have the lower level go the whole length of the space. This would allow me to have the female/male changing rooms, reception and refreshment area on the upper level and the pools on the lower. After some thought I realised that digging that deep and that size space was unnecessary and would have a large impact on the environment. If I changed my design around I could fit everything in without such an impact.

From this I decided to reduce the lower level to only half the size. With the alteration I then moved the changing rooms into a unisex space with cubicles that completely close off allowing for privacy. The changing rooms would be allocated to a guest for the duration of their stay and they would be able to keep all their belongings in the room and lock it. This takes away the need for lockers in the pool area. The reduced number of changing spaces also means I don’t need quite as much pool space as only a small number of people can use the space at a time. I like the idea of having limited guests at a time as I feel it will make the overall experience more relaxing and give a sense of luxury to the guests.

The entrance into the space is through the existing lift which opens into a reception space. The upper level is fully wheelchair accessible and there will be a lift from the upper to lower level.

I want the space to be quite dramatic and quirky/unique with a sense of luxury whilst also being a space to relax in.

Workflow images showing development of models. Being able to test the bath house model into the group site model was helpful to double check sizings and the flow of the proposed design.
