Tutorial Exercise: Week 8

Exercise 1: Write about the space we are working in (home, studio, etc) and define how we see this space in the context of wiggle room.

Initial paragraph: A home of three people with spaces of varying amounts of wiggle room. The living area, where we can all work and wiggle in our own space without a huge amount or constriction. Unless someone is in a meeting in which case you are restricted to silence least there be background noise. Meeting over it’s back to a social environment, wiggle room open. The bedroom, containing a desk, not social but its full of wiggle room and no constrictions. In here I am free to talk, sing (badly), slack off and do my work in whichever way I desire.

Exercise 2: We were then put into groups to discuss our piece of writing and reflect on each others work using the following points.
Identify the main idea
Has the writer explained their personal interpretation
– What do you take away from the text and how the space influences the social and vice versa
– How concise is the writing?
– Do the sentences make sense?
– Is there repetition?
– Is it creative?
– Does it offer fresh perspectives?

We then helped each other to refine our writing.

Refined Paragraph: A home of three people with spaces of varying amounts of wiggle room. The living area, where we can all work and wiggle in our own space without compromise. Unless someone is in a meeting in which case you are restricted to silence. Meeting over its back to a social environment, wiggle room open. The bedroom, containing a desk, an antisocial and informal space but its full of wiggle room. In here I am free to talk, sing (badly), slack off, and work however I wish.
