Week 3 – Document Critiques

For Tuesdays class we had a conversation around what is a good/bad critique and then moved into mixed groups to critique each others 10 documents which we brought in. In my group, not many people had documents ready but everyone had a clear idea of what they were wanting to look at and we were all able to bounce ideas and thoughts off each other and what we thought could be useful.

In Thursdays class we all brought in what we considered to be our 5 best documents and laid them out on our tables thinking about the display. We then walked around the room and wrote critiques on post it notes. By the end of the exercise everyone had a pile of critique which for me I found really helpful. I was able to see if there was any repetition in the critique and from there work out what I could change or include dependant on how others had taken in and understood the documents I had displayed. The critiques were mostly positive but I found not too many of them were constructive, there was still quite a lot of compliments without much feedback so to speak. The most helpful ones were those which gave suggestions or asked questions and really made me reflect back on my work.

Alongside classes I visited my social space a few times throughout the week to gain a different feel for the site at different times. There were noticeable differences in morning/afternoon/evening customers both in the customers themselves but also in their orders. The feel of the site changes throughout the day and it was interesting to be able to observe and capture this as a part of my 50 documents.
