When presenting my canvas and booklet I wanted it to mimic how it was placed in the apartment. Instead of hanging it on a wall I propped it up at eye level so it could be easily read and come across as a work of art. The booklet I placed in front of the canvas to encourage viewers to pick it up and read through. I didn’t have much to display as I felt the canvas was the artefact itself and was easy to understand.
The booklet is a supporting document that outlines the initial proposal, context writing, before/during/after images, equipment used, expectations vs reality, signed agreement, post intervention questions, personal reflection and some additional images. The booklet was predominantly writing but I felt it needed to be to better understand the context of the intervention. There were only so many different images I could take of the canvas itself and the interaction with it in the apartment, so I think the writing was necessary to help the background information be conveyed. I choose to group this information into booklet form as I felt it read better and was an easy way to present all the needed information, similar to the way we use brochures. I didn’t want to have several pieces of lose paper as I felt it would take away from the canvas and people would focus on reading the individual pieces instead of the canvas. If thinking of the canvas as a work of art the booklet is something that could be taken away with the viewer as a momento.

Below is the feedback I received from peers during the presentation session. All of the feedback was really positive and kind, the viewers seemed to really enjoy what I had done and the concept. There were a few suggestions for improvement which I agree with and are things that I had been considering myself after seeing some other classmates work.
It was mentioned that the booklet felt overwhelming with the amount of text on it but also that the writing was well thought out. I agree that there was probably a bit too much text on the page and this is something I had been mindful of but struggled to reduce further. I will work on this moving forward as I know I can be a bit rambly at times. I do think that this particular intervention required good explanation however, I think I just need to work on finding a balance. There was also a comment around involving colour and shapes to experiment with the visual impact which I think is interesting to consider how this would have translated and how it would have improved the overall look, maybe this is something I can try to incorporate into the next part of the brief.
