In Wednesdays studio time we did a collaborative exercise in which we set up a display using desks and stands to show off our work we had created in the workshops. One by one each study group came up and had 10 minutes to create their display while the class watched. The aim of the exercise was to get us working collaborative and to test our ability to quickly produce a quality display using found materials in the studio space.
Our group went third which allowed us a small amount of time to plan but also made me worried as I saw how well the groups before us did. I was unsure how we could show ours differently to the other groups as there are only so many ways you can place an object before it starts to be repetitive. Although we had a rough plan what we actually ended up making wasn’t what we had initially thought and the layout naturally changed as we all added our own spin to different parts of the display. We wanted to emphasise the angles and a sort of hidden/open concept to lead the eye which I think we did well in the end with nothing being too uniform which I like. We also wanted the space to be one you could walk around and in to so it could be viewed from as many angles as possible.
Overall the exercise was a lot of fun and it was nice to do something different. It was good for not allowing us to get preoccupied with perfection and to instead make intuitively. We worked well as a team and I was happy with what we produced in the time we had.
