The following are some works that inspired me as I found aspects of them to be similar to what I wanted to achieve in my own design.
Petra Blaisse
Petra Blaisse (Born 1955, London) is a dutch designer who works primarily as an architect, interior designer, with textiles and landscapes. She founded the Amsterdam based studio Inside Outside in 1991. Blaisse is well known for her textiles which are often done at a large scale. They’re beautifully designed and well thought out from start to finish, even considering how the hang when drawn back. She uses a mix of media and techniques dependant on the use of the curtains and the space in which they will be used. They are functional works of art as they are often used in public spaces for dividing, displaying or covering areas. I was especially interested in the scale she works in, the mixed use of the curtains and also the hanging systems used.

Assemble Studio
Assemble is a multi-disciplinary studio founded in 2010 who work with art, design and architecture. I was interested in this piece, Cineroleum for the way they have designed the curtain to be opened and closed. Reminiscent of a theatre curtain it has been hand sewn to pull up and down as the cinema is in use. The material is thicker than what I am planning on using but a similar method could be undertaken.

Mata Aho Collective, Maureen Lander
Atapō, shown below, is a piece that was exhibited at Auckland Art Gallery by Mata Aho Collective and Maureen Lander. I was really interested in the material they had used and the different effect it created as it became more or less layered. Some sections could be seen easily through and others were very dense. It was constructed from a Nylon net which I will look into for my own work. I also liked the way it had been hung with a thin and simple metal wire at the top and weighted down at the bottom.
