My study group decided to make a group site model at a 1:50 scale as we felt that would best fit all our designs. I was able to use the digital 1:1 model I had already made and scale it down to 1:50. I then went through the model and made each part into a set of 2D lines suitable for the laser cutter. This took quite a bit of time and once it was done I went through and labelled each piece so that we could tell them apart once they were cut. Some elements of the model were too thin to cut accurately so we removed them and other had to be adjusted to fit correctly once glued. Once all the pieces were cut out we decided to only model one glasshouse and the courtyard area as this was all that was being used. As a group we met up one evening to build the model together. We chose to make the model out of 3mm and 6mm MDF as it is easy to cut, assemble and has a tidy finish.

Adding trusses to glasshouse roof
Once the site model was completed I was able to work on making a scale model of my design to go into the space. As we are using this model as a group, our own interventions need to be easily removable.
