Week 8 – Detailing

This weeks task was to find an area of our project that needed more work and develop the detailing of that element. I immediately thought to do something with the panels and how they could be constructed or an additional detail that could be added to them to elevate the design. To start with I roughly sketched some ideas, mostly simple variations on the original structure such as a negative corner space, detailing the construction/joinery of the parts of the panel and how these could fit together. I decided I could try to make the panels themselves much more detailed and more of a feature which is where the idea for the main panel to be made up of a series of smaller panels and negative spaces came about.

This concept had some interesting features to it such as how light would interact with the negative detailing, the views it would create – small glimpses as you past – and I felt that it kind of ties back into my original images taken using my cinematic device. The way the thin panels frame a perspective could create a similar “cut and paste” or spliced type images like the cinematic device did.

I jumped into Rhino to make a digital model to further detail and test the concept. From this I was able to generate some drawings of the detailed panel and some quick screenshots and renders of what the panel could look like.
