For my 1:50 model I decided to keep all the changes I had made in project 2. The only other addition I made to this entrance threshold was a more clear definition in terms of public and private space. I did this by creating a small area at the start of the entrance ramp where the public can come up to and view the inside of the site, however they are blocked off from the duo inside by a glass wall. This concept enhances the performance aspect of the space. The inspiration for this idea was from the meerkat inclosure at Auckland zoo and the viewing “holes” that people can pop their heads up into and watch the meerkats from the centre of the inclosure. By having a solid wall between the public and the exes inside it creates a sort of silent show and so the body language and movement becomes important.
Alongside the changes from project 2 I added in 4 platforms at different heights to create the necessary living spaces. All of the platforms require a real conscious thought into the movement around them ie: big exaggerated step up, climb up, ladder. This movement around the whole space is exaggerated to play on the dramatic situation.
I found making this model such a fun experience as I was able to be a bit cheeky and dramatic with the design thanks to my two strangers concept. It’s not something that would be used in an everyday environment but it is unique and challenges the norm.
