After a group discussion on our collages we moved onto creating a series of three models that draw from an aspect of our collage. I found it slightly difficult to know where to begin with this, I think I was focussing on trying to make something too literal instead of just letting myself create whatever. I found once I just started making something it became easier and developed naturally.
I began by imaging the coloured circles on the road outside of the WM building and what they would be like if you were to raise them up, if they were something that could be walked under and around. As I was interested in the light/shadows from the walk as well I wanted to explore this in my models. I did this by creating a few cuts into the raised circle and exploring how the light would travel through these gaps and the paterns it could create. Incorporating colour I was able to see how the colour would play through the gaps with the lights as well.

For my second model I thought it would be interesting to use the “off cuts” to imagine the spaces around the circular shapes on the path and what shape and line they would take on. This would allow me to explore a different texture and shadow which was the aim for the second model. The unique shapes, sizes and lines of the off cuts created a naturally 3 dimensional structure that wove around itself creating the opportunity for the light to create shadows in many varying directions.
My third model I decided to merge the two previous ones to try and create a series of thresholds or transitions. I kind of imagined the second structure as if it was some sort of sculpture that could be navigated around, under or over and considered using the circular shape from my first model to create some sort of cieling in which the light could come through and throw colour around the exisiting space, shapes and curves.
